Period Poverty Awareness Week – 5/24-30/2021
Did you know that 1 in 4 women have struggled with period poverty? Many women who cannot afford period supplies are forced to resort to using socks, toilet paper, and even newspaper as substitutes. Even though 1 in 5 low income women report having to miss school or work because of not having access to period supplies, these essentials are not covered by State and Federal safety net programs.
Let’s help all women face every day of the month with the confidence and security they deserve! The Empowering Women for Success Project at Catholic Charities Immigration and Refugee Services will be accepting donations of pads, wipes, over the counter pain relief products, and new underwear to support the needs of our clients during Period Poverty Awareness Week, May 24th-30th. Collection boxes will be placed in the lobby of the Diocesan Center (4800 Union Deposit Road in Harrisburg), at the Catholic Charities Immigration and Refugee Services Office (939 East Park Drive in Harrisburg), and at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church (310 Hertzler Road in Mechanicsburg).
