November is National Adoption Month
Dear Friends,
Perhaps you recall the news story about a 15 year old boy in Florida who went to his church and asked the congregation for the one thing he wants the most – a family. “I’ll take anyone,” he said. “Old or young…dad or mom…black, white, purple. I don’t care. And I would be really appreciative.”
If you’re like me, you find stories like that to be very moving. I don’t think anyone would disagree that every child deserves a permanent, nurturing family.
At Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Harrisburg, our Adoption and Specialized Foster Care Program is designed to match loving families with children in need of a loving home. Our Adoption Program provides resources to adoptive parents who are interested in adopting a newborn infant or in some cases matches the family with a child or group of siblings engaged with the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption Network (SWAN). Our Specialized Foster Care Program places children who have been separated from their families by the court system into loving homes. Often times, adoption is an appropriate course, and SWAN works with many foster parents to adopt their children and provide a permanent caring environment.
This type of work is expensive, and we need your help. Many agencies offer adoption and foster care services, but Catholic Charities provides help and creates hope for all individuals (of all faiths) regardless of their financial situation. In addition, the revenue we receive for our work does not match the cost of the services we provide. In order to continue our services, we rely heavily on the generosity of people like you who understand and appreciate the importance of these efforts.
There are thousands of boys and girls (like that young man in Florida) who want one thing more than anything else – a family. Money should not be the reason children can’t find loving parents. If we had the resources we need, we could bring more children and families together.
November is National Adoption Month, a time to raise awareness and generate support for programs like Catholic Charities that bring adoptive children and families together. This month, please consider a charitable gift to our Adoption Program to help support our important work. Your donation will be used to provide the resources we need to help build permanent, caring families in our region. Your gift, regardless of the amount, will make a difference. And you can take pride knowing that you are a part of something truly special.
Thank you in advance for your support. May God bless you.
