November is National Adoption Month
Did you know that November is National Adoption Month?
Here at Catholic Charities, our Adoption and Specialized Foster Care Programs are designed to match loving families with children in need of a loving home. Our program provides the opportunity for children to grow and thrive in the security of family’s love.
Here are two of our many program success stories:
- “JULIA” was a 21 years old when she became pregnant. Although she loved her child, she knew she was not able to provide her with a safe, stable home. After meeting her daughter’s adoptive parents, Julia knew that placing her daughter for adoption was the right thing to do. “As difficult as it was, I knew that I couldn’t provide her with all that she needed. I feel at peace and very proud that I gave my daughter life. I have come to the realization that she’ll always be my daughter. I love her with my whole heart, and that is why I made this selfless, difficult choice. “
- When the B. FOSTER FAMILY took placement of a 12- day old baby, they believed it would be a short-term placement. Many kids in our program are in need of a family for a short period of time. Time for their birth parents to get clean, to find appropriate housing, or to settle a domestic abusive situation. Sometimes kids are placed in foster care to be safe and nurtured until other family members can be located. The idea that this baby, who was born with drugs in her system, would remain in the foster home for almost a year was not even considered as a possibility at the time she was placed. But nearly 12 months later, she is finally growing and developing in a healthy way in the foster home. This child still has some medical hurdles to conquer, but she is happy. And she is safe. And she is loved.
These are just two examples of the work we do every day in our Adoption and Specialized Foster Care Programs. Our Adoption Program provides resources to adoptive parents who are interested in adopting a newborn infant or in some cases matches the family with a child or group of siblings engaged with the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption Network (SWAN). Our Specialized Foster Care Program places children who have been separated from their families by the court system into loving homes. Often times, adoption is an appropriate course, and SWAN works with many foster parents to adopt their children and provide a permanent caring environment.
National Adoption Month is the ideal time for us to raise awareness of and generate support for programs like Catholic Charities that bring adoptive children and families together. Click the link below to learn more about our program and/or to make a contribution to support our efforts.
