Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Harrisburg has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 29th, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Catholic Charities provides help and creates hope for needy individuals and families in south central Pennsylvania. Programs include Counseling (for individuals, children, and families), Support Services (Adoption and Specialized Foster Care, Pregnancy Support Services, and Immigration and Refugee Services), Youth Programs (Family Based Parenting Education, Intensive Day Treatment, Intensive Family Services, and Paradise School), and Residential Facilities (Evergreen House, Interfaith Shelter for Homeless Families, and Lourdeshouse Maternity Home). All services are provided regardless of age, race, religion, or ability to pay.
Last year, Catholic Charities provided nearly 130,000 services to nearly 4,000 clients. The Harrisburg agency first opened in 1938 and recently completed its 77th consecutive year.
“In order to accomplish our important mission, we rely heavily on the generosity of individuals, corporations, churches, and foundations who generously support us with their charitable gifts,” said Christopher Meehan, Catholic Charities Director of Development. “The majority of the clients we serve are unable to pay for their services they receive. However, the individuals and families we help are never denied because of an inability to pay. We do what we can to help someone in need. “
That’s why #GivingTuesday is so important. As you review the many wonderful organizations and causes who need your support, we hope that you will consider Catholic Charities.
