Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Harrisburg is a human services organization guided by our faith and committed to the community we serve. The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. Our mission is rooted in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching: To provide vital social services for people in need regardless of their religious, social or economic background, and to improve lives of individuals, families and the community.
Catholic Charities of The Diocese of Harrisburg has achieved accreditation and membership with the Council on Accreditation (COA) and the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofits Organizations (PANO). Both COA and PANO prescribe rigorous standards both at the service level as well as at the level of governance and board. These standards are in addition to the licensing requirements that are required for many of our individual programs by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Public Welfare. Collectively, these regulating bodies ensure the delivery of quality services order to improve the lives of the children, youth and families that we serve.
Through the personal commitment of our employees, volunteers and donors, Catholic Charities provides hope and opportunity to individuals and families residing in the fifteen Pennsylvania counties that comprise the Diocese of Harrisburg. Our membership with Catholic Charities USA, recognized as one of the nation’s largest social service networks, provides leadership and development resources. In addition, this association enhances the collective mission of Catholic Charities: providing services to people in need, to advocate for justice in social structures and to call the entire church and others of good will to do the same.
